Asbestos Surveys and Testing

Asbestos can be very difficult to identify without sending off a sample for testing. An Asbestos survey will confirm the presence of Asbestos materials throughout your property and provide sufficient information for a risk assessment so that a management plan can be put in place. There are two types of survey depending on your requirements, a Management Survey and a Refurbishment and Demolition survey.

Asbestos Garage Roof Removal

By far the most common product containing asbestos found in the home is the garage roof. Some old free-standing or ex-local authority garages also contain Asbestos cement walls. Asbestos corrugated roofing was often used in the construction of garage roofs and outbuildings as an affordable alternative to corrugated metal panels. Corrugated Asbestos offered more insulation and durability than its metal counterpart making it a popular product in homes and businesses. Corrugated asbestos was used in the construction and roofing of all types of buildings including Factories, Farms, Schools, sheds and outbuildings. A damaged or leaking roof in poor condition should be considered for removal.

Asbestos Shed and Outbuilding Removal

Sheds and outbuildings with corrugated roofs often contain asbestos and will require monitoring or replacing if damaged, distressed or leaking. Shed roofs can also contain Asbestos felt, an insulation and waterproof fabric made by compressing textile fibres and applying heat and moisture in order to mat the fibres together. Felt is usually made from animal hair or synthetic fibres, but due to asbestos’s fibrous consistency and fireproof properties, Asbestos felt was used in the construction industry. Asbestos felt was used as a base for shingles and sometimes the main material used in built-up roofs. Asbestos felt was also used under linoleum, vinyl and asphalt floor tiles for padding and insulation.

Asbestos Vinyl Products

Vinyl is a plastic resin manufactured from ethylene and chlorine and often mixed with asbestos for greater strength and insulation. The construction industry favoured asbestos materials as an essential component of fire-resistant buildings. Both vinyl and asbestos were inexpensive and easy to work with and were commonly used in Vinyl Wallpaper, Vinyl Floor Tiles and Vinyl Sheet Flooring.

Artex Ceilings Testing and Removal

Asbestos Textured coatings were used on walls and ceilings in council properties and commercial buildings right up to the mid-’90s. Artex containing Asbestos was a popular decorative technique that can be found in many homes constructed before 1999. Artex containing Asbestos is safe while in good condition but damaged flaking asbestos can be very dangerous. Do not attempt to scrape, sand or remove old Artex without seeking advice first. Tag Asbestos can test your Artex ceilings for the presence of Chrysotile and safely remove any Artex containing asbestos.
